"Top 10 Things I Wish I knew Before I Graduated from Dental School"

Real advice from dentists in our Dentist Job Connect community!

About to start your dental career? Searching for the perfect dental job as a new associate dentist?  Here are the top ten things dentists from our community learned in the real world of dentistry and wish they had learned before they graduated from dental school!

1) I wish I had signed up for a sales course to teach me the art of closing cases, and how to help patients remove roadblocks to their treatment plans!

2) It's okay to care deeply about your patients, but you can't make their dental problems your own personal problems.

3) It is worth it to spend more time looking for the right job, than to rush and sign on to get a job.

4) Start with continuing education in earnest as soon as possible.

5) One- that marketing is essential. Two- that networking is critical. Three- that finding the RIGHT group of accountants, attorneys, business coaches and mentors is also critical.

6) You don't have to work long hours/a lot of days to be successful. You just have to work smart and learn how to organize your schedule in a way that is efficient.

7) I wished I had started building wealth through other sources (real estate) sooner.

8) Take every bad employer and experience as a LEARNING OPPORTUNITY to help you when you get to run the show.

9) Don’t buy that brand new Benz yet. Don’t let lifestyle creep ruin your future.

10) Get good at explaining the difference in a filling and crown and get a good workflow down for both. Shouldn’t take longer than 20 minutes for most crown preps.
